Specifically HB-5043 which is typically called a "Glock Ban" modeled after Kommiefornia's ban. Not one word of this unconstitutional bullshit will prevent a single ghetto hood rat from obtaining a Glock style striker-fired pistol and slapping a switch on it. NOT-A-SINGLE-ONE! However, the rest of us Peaceably Armed Citizens will have the gun store display cases of semi auto striker-fired pistols emptied of choices to purchase. The bill prohibits manufacture, sale, and transfer of these pistols, until they find out it didn't work and they ban possession as well, in which case I am already such a felon, so what's one more? I won't comply with this infringement either. This video is from Chicago, the premier city for gun control and the hood rats have all the forbidden hardware they want with no problem. I, along with almost 2,000 other Kommiecticut residents submitted written or oral testimony in opposition during the public hearing for the Judicial Committee, while those in favor could be counted on one hand. As usual, such a bill with bitter opposition was pushed through the committee favorably, and will now be up for a full vote in the General Assembly. With one party rule of Demon-Craps in both houses, a vote in favor will be a simple formality. Then it goes to the desk of the idiot governor "Jolly" Ned Lamont who will sign it as soon as it arrives on his desk. This particular law will be just the beginning, because as anyone that actually has any firearms knowledge should know, is that EVERY semi-auto pistol can be converted to full auto. Just pull up a few videos on YouTube of full auto 1911's, Desert Eagles, or Beretta 92/96 pistols.
So in anticipation of this new law taking effect on July 1st, I wanted to get another striker fired pistol just because I still can. I have a few already but had some dough squirreled away for buying guns so I started shopping last week. I was looking at getting something completely different and settled on getting a 10mm. I found a G-20 Gen 4 at Cabela's online for $499.99 but no way to start the online purchase process, so I called customer service. The guy told me that the gun was the last one in their system and located at their store in Anchorage, Alaska. I was told that once a firearm lands there, it is never coming back due to company policy. There was a G-20 Gen 5 listed at Hoffman's Gun Center for $579 but the online listing disappeared. I stopped looking until last Thursday when I grabbed my cash stash and Cabela's gift cards to actually shop in person because online gun listings don't seem to filter properly and show me stuff that I'm not looking for.
First stop was Cabela's because I had a couple of gift cards to help pay for guns. They did not have squat for what I was looking for in guns. I did check out their supply of 10mm ammo and they had plenty. Herter's 180gr FMJ target ammo in a 50 round box for $22.99 and SIG V-Crown 180gr JHP Elite Performance in a 20 round box for $25.99 I figured if I end up scoring a pistol I'd come back and get ammo on the gift cards.
Next stop was the Newington Gun Exchange. They had a brand new G-20 Gen V for $675 and he said I could have it for $630 if I paid cash. I almost bought it then and there, but wanted to head a little further south to Hoffman's first because sometimes there is good stuff in the used gun display cases. Plus the fact that Glock came with only one mag, a blocked and glued 15 rounder that can never be disassembled for cleaning, and I would have to purchase 10 round mags for $30 a piece. At Hoffman's there were no Glock G-20's and nothing in the used displays. I started walking around examining the entire area of gun cases, and found this. A full size Smith & Wesson M&P 10mm pistol for $659
$29 more than the cash price for the Glock and came with two S & W 10 round mags. I asked to examine it and fell in love. A full size pistol (I was not interested in a compact 10mm) and absolute S & W quality with interchangeable backstraps. I told the salesman I'd take it so went went around to the other side to do the paperwork. I just wish it came in a decent case instead of the cardboard box. I left Hoffman's, grabbed some lunch, and went back to Cabela's for ammo. I bought two boxes of the Herter's target ammo and two boxes of the SIG hollow points with about $85 left on my gift card. I got home and opened up the box to closely examine it and read the instruction manual, skipping most of the first 10 pages of Darwin Award warnings. The only one I paid attention to were the ammo requirements. Nothing crazy, but it turns out there is no +P or +P+ 10mm ammo so no worries there. It turned out the "Large" backstrap fits my hand the best so that is what got installed. The take down is like my other Smith & Wesson M&P pistol so nothing new there. The pistol requires a cleaning and lubrication before use so I repacked everything in the box and stuck it in the overloaded safe. The plan is to do the clean and lube right before range day. I also opened up a box of the Herter's target ammo to look at. Excellent! It's manufactured using Winchester brass so it will be awesome for eventual reloading. I sat down and made a list of reloading needs for 10mm. Turns out I don't need to purchase much. A set of Lee 3-carbide dies for 40 cal or 10mm for about $45, a Lee mounting turret for 3 dies $23 on eBay, and bullets from my usual source Berry's Manufacturing. I will order a box of 500 .40 180gr copper plated flat point bullets for $92. I found a recipe that uses those bullets, Hogdgon HS-6 that I already use and have for my .357 Magnum load, and Winchester Large Magnum Pistol Primers. The shell plate carrier is a Lee #19 which is the same one I use for 9mm. The rim dimensions of 9mm and 10mm are identical. I'll load a few for testing and dust off the chronograph when the time comes. I don't load my target ammo too hot, but it's gotta function reliably without FTF/FTE's.
On Friday April 3rd my wife was out of town most of the day, so I went to the range to play. Surprise! When I went to clean it and lube it I discovered I don't have a jag or bronze brush for .40/10mm. I used my 9mm stuff and it worked good enough. I only brought the new 10mm pistol, my range bag, a single box of ammo, and my tool box. I started by bench resting it on sandbags at took aim at 25 yards. Off to the the left a bit. The sights are only adjustable for windage so I loosened the lock screw and gave it a couple little love taps to the right. That was all it took. I then whacked the 25 yard gongs several times. I moved the target stand closer too the 15 yard mark to shoot from stance. Not bad and the recoil is not what I thought it was going to be based on what I've read. All the shells go over my right shoulder and were all easily recovered. I then moved the stand to 7 yards or so to try self defense range and put all rounds center mass where they need to go. I ended my day by using my remaining ammo on the 25 yard gongs.
Early Friday morning I assisted my wife with setting up her dog event. I left a little after 9 AM, stopped for breakfast, and headed back to Cabela's with my gift cards. I picked up two more boxes of the Herter's target ammo, a nice .40 brass patch jag, .40 bronze brush, and a new silicone wipe down cloth. There's a couple of bucks left on the card for later in the season when I'll need some replacement fishing gear. I'll give it a good cleaning and head back to the range, hopefully later this week on a day off.
I will probably put on a small red dot and rail light since it comes with an optics cut and adapter plates. I am thinking this may become my new home defense nightstand gun, displacing the Glock 21 with the TLR-4 laser/light combo. There will be NO COVER for bad guys in my house because I can easily blast them trough walls and doors
