Q: Why do I think there's a commie behind every tree?
A: BECAUSE THERE IS A FUCKING COMMIE BEHIND EVERY TREE!! And on every college campus and at every level in government.

The Infringements Continue - 2026

This is extracted from an email I received from the CCDL (CT Citizens Defense League) today at just after 9 AM titled "CCDL Member Update: May 2026"

CCDL SEEKS DOJ SUPPORT OF CT GUNOWNERS

This week CCDL sent a letter to the federal government requesting relief in the Second Amendment arena. Connecticut continues to trample our rights and yet pushes for more. Every session we are forced to comply with new laws and restrictions on items that were legal when we purchased them. It is becoming increasingly difficult to remain a law abiding citizen in Connecticut and it is beyond time for change.

Late 2025, the Department of Justice opened the Second Amendment Section of the Civil Rights Division. Since its inception, the Second Amendment Section has gotten involved with state litigation across the country, including in nearby-Massachusetts, Virigina, Hawaii and most recently Colorado, for several unconstitutional restrictions.

We are asking the DOJ for the same pressure.

Read the CCDL letter to the DOJ here.

The line at the end of the first paragraph saying it is increasingly difficult to remain a law abiding citizen in Connecticut is what caught my attention. As many of you know, I have refused to comply with the unconstitutional infringements in KOMMIECTICUT since they implemented their own "assault weapons ban" in 1994, and EVERYTHING passed since then. Carrying guns in GUN-FREE DEATH ZONES, buying and selling guns privately with no government authorization or interference, buying "verboten items" in free states and bringing them back here, storing guns how I see fit.... the list goes on and on. It has even expanded to carrying concealed across the imaginary CRIME LINE at the state border where I play my game of calling out "Not a Felon/Felon/Not a Felon" as I criss-cross the border. I did this last evening when going out to dinner with my wife and another couple documented with this post on X.

What caught my attention was having an organization like the CCDL say the quiet part out loud and mention what I have said for years. "I am not a law abiding citizen, but a peaceable one." To be law abiding means obeying these unconstitutional infringements, and I flatly refuse. I follow the quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson (although there is no evidence he said it) “If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.”

Laws require compliance and obedience to work. I will do neither especially when they have NO EFFECT on the criminal behavior it is intended to stop. The latest version of this is HB-5043 aka "The Glock Ban." As we all know, ghetto hood rats have no problem obtaining Glock pistols and installing extended magazines and giggle switches with no background check, Form 4473, or NFA approval certificate. That doesn't stop the hoplophobes in the state capitol from limiting the peaceable citizen's market choices at the local gun shop. And it's not just Glocks, it's any cruciform trigger system striker fired pistol. So not only my two Glocks, but my Ruger SR9c, S & W 45 Shield, and newest S & W  M&P 2.0 10mm. Of course the law is written so you can keep what you have, but look what's going on right now in Rhode Island with their "assault weapons ban" they passed last year. This year they want them all turned in or confiscated by force. Do you think Kommiecticut hasn't seen that and thought "Hmmmmm... maybe we take them all next year?"

I am currently waiting to receive my official firearms list from the state police "Special Licensing & Firearms Unit" also known as the SLFU. They are notoriously understaffed I believe on purpose to make dealing with firearms in the state increasingly difficult for the average citizen. Pistol permit renewals are way behind, so I don't expect my list any time soon. It has to be requested in writing, notarized, and sent by snail mail. They then print it out and mail it back to you. Fucking dinosaurs! I am working on my estate planning for firearms with my baby brother who will handle it for my wife in the event of my demise. This way he will know which guns he can sell off the radar for cash. These lists are stupid inaccurate. The last one I got was (happily) missing 50% of my guns. While most were off state radar anyway and some never had serial numbers, several were bought at FFL dealers with paperwork yet weren't there. Of course, the SLFU encourages you to add the missing ones, and YOU must provide proof of sale for any guns still on the list in error. I accidentally found out that there is a database listing EVERY gun you have ever owned. For example, I sold a Ruger Single Six in the early 1990's. Nice pistol, with the extra cylinder for .22 Magnum, just too small for my hand. If someone uses it in a crime, don't come to me about it for any reason... I will be, shall we say... less than cooperative.

The big hit we are facing on our property taxes may be the final nudge needed to get my wife to move to a free state. The town has absolutely blown up the budget with no new sources of revenue except to rob the townspeople for more. I don't fucking have it! Second Amendment freedom will just be a bonus.

Range Day 4-20-26

In my previous post I wrote about buying my new Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 10mm full size pistol ahead of the latest infringements in Kommiecticut. HB 5043 that will ban just about all striker fired semi-autos, supposedly to prevent the hood rats from buying these guns and adding giggle switches, as if they walk into a gun shop to buy their guns! But we all know it will have absolutely no effect on their activities, just make less choices available for Peaceably Armed Citizen Patriots to purchase. After all, the eventual goal of state government is total civilian disarmament and always has been.

I decided that indeed, the 10mm will now become the new bedside gun. Further thought about doing that revealed that adding a red dot in the optics cutout is not what I need to do, but instead move the Streamlight TLR-4 Laser/Light off the Glock G-21 and onto the 10mm. If I put on a red dot, I would still need to buy a light. I only use the TLR-4 at night in the house so moving it made sense. Because it is a red laser, I would need to plan my range day for overcast conditions, because sunlight obliterates red lasers. When I headed for the range on the 20th it was overcast and the 10mm wasn't the only thing I brought. You see, I picked up a couple of items from a neighbor that is downsizing and wanted to try these items out.

When I arrived at the range, there was another club member already there working on a rifle for his wife. He was getting it zeroed close so she could come to the range for her final zero. I let him finish up and then asked if he wanted to stick around for a little fun. You see, one of those items I bought was a small DIY cannon. You know, just like the ones (p)Resident Poopy Pants Biden said no one could own. Remember?

It's made out of a piece of seamless stainless steel tubing with a plug welded in one end and a drilled fuze hole. The mount is pretty shitty so I will improve that (maybe with a gun carriage kit), and change the fuze to be a lanyard that flips a hammer onto a primer cap. The fuze hole will be drilled and tapped to accommodate a black powder nipple. The bore is smooth so I will cast some round ball projectiles out of scrap lead and actually shoot it. The previous owner only did black powder salutes with wadded up newspaper. My plan at the range was to pop it off with propane. I set the cannon mount against the concrete pad of the firing line with the muzzle facing downrange. A piece of cannon fuze was placed in the fuze hole. Using an unlit propane torch I filled the barrel with a quantity of propane. I lit the fuze and watched it completely burn away with a little smoke coming out of the hole. NUTHIN'! I then lit the torch and held the flame near the muzzle and still nothing. We waited a few minutes and blew air into the fuze hole and tried again with a little more propane. I held the torch flame near the fuze hole and then near the muzzle again with no results. I had witnessed a similar size cannon lit off easily and successfully several times at a boy scout camp so I'm not sure what I need to do to make it pop. I put the cannon back in the truck and the other club member left. Time to do some actual shooting.

First up was this kinda weird double action revolver. A Harrington & Richardson 732 Guardsman 2nd Model in .32 S & W Long, sporting a 4" barrel. It was dirty from not being cleaned, but in Blue Book 95%-98% condition with original grips.

Obtained with no paperwork for cash from the same guy I got the cannon from. He bought it forty something years ago to dispose of vermin caught alive in a trap. It came with almost a full box of Remington ammo. I said it's weird mostly because how you open the cylinder. You pull the exposed cylinder pin outward and flip the cylinder out. I loaded six rounds and fired it on single action. Accuracy with the fixed sights was pretty good. I then reloaded it to try it on double action and it worked perfectly. I fired a few more cylinders full and was satisfied at $100 it was a good buy for a working gun that is unregistered.

Next up to do some work with my new S & W 10mm. A single center mass hit with a 10mm 200gr JHP should finish off anyone in my home that doesn't belong there, and with a spare 10 round mag handle any potential friends of theirs. Therefore, I needed to move the Streamlight TLR-4 from the Glock to the S & W. I brought tools and the extra mounting plates to make the swap. It took about 15 minutes to figure out the mount and get it put together. I put targets up at 10 yards, loaded my mags, and got ready to shoot. But SONOFABITCH!!! the sun came out nice and bright making the laser dot invisible. I waited for some clouds to come over but they went by too fast. I ended up using another target stand mounted 90 degrees and extra cardboard to shade my targets from the sun. While not optimal, it worked. I got the laser zeroed to the pistol. 10 yards is the maximum range inside my house so that's how I zero it and I use a little saying I made up to remember holds closer and farther away. It's "Go Slow, Fairy" which means if I am closer than 10 yards the laser dot goes low... "Go Slow." Just above the base of the sternum/diaphragm area for the center of the chest. If I am further that 10 yards then I hold high, about the area between the inner part of the collar bones or the neck if really far. Far = High... "Fairy." It works for me, YMMV. I then used the remainder of my target ammo to smack the 25 yard plates using the iron sights and called it a day. I went home to clean and lube the 10mm for house guard duty. The mags were cleaned and loaded with the home defense ammo. SIG Elite Performance 200gr V-Crown JHP is what I use for the house. The next day was supposed to be shitty wet weather, so the plan was to start cleaning some guns from previous range outings. I don't clean my guns immediately after an outing, but I don't let them get really crapped up either. Later in the evening, I got the press going to crank out some 9mm. I need to load some more prepped brass while the press is set up for 9mm.

I picked up this beauty as well from the same guy for $200. A hardly used (but dirty) Marlin 60SS with laminated birchwood stock, Marlin Micro-Groove barrel, and 4X scope. This gun has never technically existed in Kommiecticut, since it came from the deceased brother-in-law in Virginia of the guy I bought it from, so did any of Kommiecticut's infringements actually get disregarded? I don't really fucking care.

A trusted friend of mine in the fire service wants it, so I tore it down completely to clean and lube it. It really wasn't that dirty, but the guy that owned it said he didn't clean it because it's stainless steel 🙄. I told him it doesn't matter it still needs cleaning and lubrication, but that falls on deaf ears with this guy. My friend is coming by tonight to pick it up for what I paid for it. It is really nice, but I don't need another .22 rifle, and I still have my old Marlin Glenfield Model 60 I bought in 1980.

New GAT In Anticipation of Another State Ban

Specifically HB-5043 which is typically called a "Glock Ban" modeled after Kommiefornia's ban. Not one word of this unconstitutional bullshit will prevent a single ghetto hood rat from obtaining a Glock style striker-fired pistol and slapping a switch on it. NOT-A-SINGLE-ONE! However, the rest of us Peaceably Armed Citizens will have the gun store display cases of semi auto striker-fired pistols emptied of choices to purchase. The bill prohibits manufacture, sale, and transfer of these pistols, until they find out it didn't work and they ban possession as well, in which case I am already such a felon, so what's one more? I won't comply with this infringement either. This video is from Chicago, the premier city for gun control and the hood rats have all the forbidden hardware they want with no problem. I, along with almost 2,000 other Kommiecticut residents submitted written or oral testimony in opposition during the public hearing for the Judicial Committee, while those in favor could be counted on one hand. As usual, such a bill with bitter opposition was pushed through the committee favorably, and will now be up for a full vote in the General Assembly. With one party rule of Demon-Craps in both houses, a vote in favor will be a simple formality. Then it goes to the desk of the idiot governor "Jolly" Ned Lamont who will sign it as soon as it arrives on his desk. This particular law will be just the beginning, because as anyone that actually has any firearms knowledge should know, is that EVERY semi-auto pistol can be converted to full auto. Just pull up a few videos on YouTube of full auto 1911's, Desert Eagles, or Beretta 92/96 pistols.

So in anticipation of this new law taking effect on July 1st, I wanted to get another striker fired pistol just because I still can. I have a few already but had some dough squirreled away for buying guns so I started shopping last week. I was looking at getting something completely different and settled on getting a 10mm. I found a G-20 Gen 4 at Cabela's online for $499.99 but no way to start the online purchase process, so I called customer service. The guy told me that the gun was the last one in their system and located at their store in Anchorage, Alaska. I was told that once a firearm lands there, it is never coming back due to company policy. There was a G-20 Gen 5 listed at Hoffman's Gun Center for $579 but the online listing disappeared. I stopped looking until last Thursday when I grabbed my cash stash and Cabela's gift cards to actually shop in person because online gun listings don't seem to filter properly and show me stuff that I'm not looking for.

First stop was Cabela's because I had a couple of gift cards to help pay for guns. They did not have squat for what I was looking for in guns. I did check out their supply of 10mm ammo and they had plenty. Herter's 180gr FMJ target ammo in a 50 round box for $22.99 and SIG V-Crown 180gr JHP Elite Performance in a 20 round box for $25.99 I figured if I end up scoring a pistol I'd come back and get ammo on the gift cards.

Next stop was the Newington Gun Exchange. They had a brand new G-20 Gen V for $675 and he said I could have it for $630 if I paid cash. I almost bought it then and there, but wanted to head a little further south to Hoffman's first because sometimes there is good stuff in the used gun display cases. Plus the fact that Glock came with only one mag, a blocked and glued 15 rounder that can never be disassembled for cleaning, and I would have to purchase "legal" 10 round mags for $30 a piece. At Hoffman's there were no Glock G-20's and nothing in the used displays. I started walking around examining the entire area of gun cases, and found this. A full size Smith & Wesson M&P 10mm pistol for $659

$29 more than the cash price for the Glock and came with two S & W 10 round mags. I asked to examine it and fell in love. A full size pistol (I was not interested in a compact 10mm) and absolute S & W quality with interchangeable backstraps. I told the salesman I'd take it so went went around to the other side to do the paperwork. I just wish it came in a decent case instead of the cardboard box. I left Hoffman's, grabbed some lunch, and went back to Cabela's for ammo. I bought two boxes of the Herter's target ammo and two boxes of the SIG hollow points with about $85 left on my gift card. I got home and opened up the box to closely examine it and read the instruction manual, skipping most of the first 10 pages of Darwin Award warnings. The only one I paid attention to were the ammo requirements. Nothing crazy, but it turns out there is no +P or +P+ 10mm ammo so no worries there. It turned out the "Large" backstrap fits my hand the best so that is what got installed. The take down is like my other Smith & Wesson M&P pistol so nothing new there. The pistol requires a cleaning and lubrication before use so I repacked everything in the box and stuck it in the overloaded safe. The plan is to do the clean and lube right before range day. I also opened up a box of the  Herter's target ammo to look at. Excellent! It's manufactured using Winchester brass so it will be awesome for eventual reloading. I sat down and made a list of reloading needs for 10mm. Turns out I don't need to purchase much. A set of Lee 3-carbide dies for 40 cal or 10mm for about $45, a Lee mounting turret for 3 dies $23 on eBay, and bullets from my usual source Berry's Manufacturing. I will order a box of 500 .40 180gr copper plated flat point bullets for $92. I found a recipe that uses those bullets, Hogdgon HS-6 powder that I already use and have for my .357 Magnum load, and Winchester Large Magnum Pistol Primers. The shell plate carrier is a Lee #19 which is the same one I use for 9mm. The rim dimensions of 9mm and 10mm are identical. I'll load a few for testing and dust off the chronograph when the time comes. I don't load my target ammo too hot, but it's gotta function reliably without FTF/FTE's.

On Friday April 3rd my wife was out of town most of the day, so I went to the range to play. Surprise! When I went to clean it and lube it I discovered I don't have a jag or bronze brush for .40/10mm. I used my 9mm stuff and it worked good enough. I only brought the new 10mm pistol, my range bag, a single box of ammo, and my tool box. I started by bench resting it on sandbags at took aim at 25 yards. Off to the the left a bit. The sights are only adjustable for windage so I loosened the lock screw and gave it a couple little love taps to the right. That was all it took. I then whacked the 25 yard gongs several times. I moved the target stand closer too the 15 yard mark to shoot from stance. Not bad and the recoil is not what I thought it was going to be based on what I've read. All the shells go over my right shoulder and were all easily recovered. I then moved the stand to 7 yards or so to try self defense range and put all rounds center mass where they need to go. I ended my day by using my remaining ammo on the 25 yard gongs.

Early Friday morning I assisted my wife with setting up her dog event. I left a little after 9 AM, stopped for breakfast, and headed back to Cabela's with my gift cards. I picked up two more boxes of the Herter's target ammo, a nice .40 brass patch jag, .40 bronze brush, and a new silicone wipe down cloth. There's a couple of bucks left on the card for later in the season when I'll need some replacement fishing gear. I'll give it a good cleaning and head back to the range, hopefully later this week on a day off.

I will probably put on a small red dot and rail light since it comes with an optics cut and adapter plates. I am thinking this may become my new home defense nightstand gun, displacing the Glock 21 with the TLR-4 laser/light combo. There will be NO COVER for bad guys in my house because I can easily blast them trough walls and doors

Range Day - Update

I did end up going to the range today. Unlike normal on a weekday, there was another club member there already. He had taken some time off from work to do some shooting and was running a suppressed Ruger 10/22 in a chassis as well as a suppressed Ruger 22/45. He finished up and left before I was half done with my session.

I brought the PCC-9 and G-17. I started with the PCC-9 since it was about function testing with the new stock. I stupidly could not remember what range I was zeroed at, so I placed a target stand with 4 targets on it at 50 yards. I loaded up a magazine, turned on the red dot, slammed the mag home and released the bolt. The gun went right into battery. I put 5 rounds on the target but a few inches high, and the other 5 on the 50 yard gong. Crap... zeroed at 100 yards. The next magazine full made a nice group in the center as I held slightly lower. The next magazine dinged the 100 yard gong with all 10 rounds. Even though I was using forbidden 17 round mags, I only loaded 10 to make it easier to keep track of ammo. I then switched to a magazine of my defensive ammo; Federal HST 147gr JHP and put rounds on target. Satisfied, I put away the carbine and took out the G-17.

I have been having a hard time with this pistol for some reason. So I decided to bench rest it at 25 yards to see where it was hitting compared to where I was aiming. High and to the left. After adjusting the sights and verifying where it was hitting, I went after the gongs at 25 yards, striking them easily. I then moved the target stand to the 10 yard line and put up some fresh targets to simulate standard self defense distance. Now shooting while standing I was able to put the rounds in what would be center mass where I was aiming. To finish I ran a mag of the Federal HST rounds. Satisfied, I cleaned up, finding ALL OF MY BRASS, and packed up. I then went to the clubhouse where a few of the members were congregating.

I am now confident in my ability to have the carbine in the truck, or the G-17 on my hip. Both guns are set up to use the same mags and the same ammo. Hopefully times don't get any spicier requiring me to be more heavily armed.

Planned Range Day

Sorry for the lack of posts over the past month. I have been busy posting on X and cramming in my continuing education requirements for my EMT renewal at the end of this month. You have from the first day after your renewal until renewal date 2 years later to get them done. I thought I had a lot more done, but when I looked up what I had I didn't have squat. I have 7 hours more to do online and will have it all completed and renewed by next Tuesday. I have a 24 hour shift tomorrow and Sunday and this will be a time filler between calls.

But today I plan on doing the minimum with C.E. and head to the range. I will be testing a new component on my Ruger PCC-9. Here is the original Kommiecticut legal configuration.

Because of commie tyrant diktats, you can only get it here with a traditional style rifle stock. But that doesn't stop me from putting it the way I WANT IT. Gun control laws in this state be damned! Compliance? What's that?

That's right, it's now set up with an Archangel AR style collapsible stock. In my opinion, not quite as good as the Ruger factory AR style version, but a good substitute that doesn't break the bank. Ruger does not offer their factory AR style stock for the PCC-9 as a separate purchasable item, which I would have preferred to buy. The Archangel stock was amazingly shipped directly to me from MidwayUsa. The only places they won't send it to is NY/NJ shipping or billing addresses. While it is supposed to be drop in fit, and it was... I discovered a multifaceted problem with the magwell. The original Ruger stocks have interchangeable magwells for Ruger, Glock, and I believe Smith & Wesson. This way you can pair it with a pistol and share mags. I had set mine up with Glock mags and purchased a brand new G-17 to go with it. The Archangel stock only works with Glock double-stack 9mm magazines. I chose a G-17 Gen 3 that can use 17 round mags, and operates and feels EXACTLY like my G-21 Gen 3 that I am already familiar with. The receiver fit into the stock nice and snug, and the mounting bolts lined up with the rear pillar and the bolt holes on the receiver. They get torqued to 60 inch/pounds. Using "Snap Caps" I loaded a magazine, inserted it and cycled the bolt. It worked the first time but then I discovered an issue. If I have the bolt locked back manually, when I insert a loaded magazine and release the bolt it stops as if the magazine is empty, forcing me to manually cycle the bolt again. Not good in a tactical situation! I put the rifle away for a few days until I had time to fully analyze and hopefully correct the problem.

That time was yesterday. I spent about an hour and a half at the gun bench with a G-17 magazine and collection of 9mm Snap-Caps. I broke the gun in half so I could observe the top of the mag in the magwell. I compared how the mag fits against my factory set up. The bar that operates the bolt catch for the last shot was catching the top edge of the magazine on the new stock. That transfer bar is easily removable (in fact upon assembly you have to insert it) and with some gentle bending in the right places I was able to get it to not touch the mag body but still react to the mag follower. The next problem I noticed was the mag could move to high up in the magwell with pressure from the bottom of the mag. I reassembled the rifle to test and found it was still hanging up. The rifle was disassembled again and inspected. I noticed the ejector on the factory magwell in a slightly different position. I slowly and carefully bent the new ejector to more closely match factory. That did it! The mag was no longer able to move too far up in the magwell. Now to test the realigned ejector. I fully assembled the rifle without torquing, loaded and cycled the rifle several times again using Snap Caps and found everything functioning normally. I torqued all the bolts to spec. Today's range outing with live ammo will be the final test. Once I am satisfied, I may put my rifle back to original Kommiecticut compliant configuration and put the new stock in the hidden SHTF stash with my other contraband until I move out of this commie blue shithole. But I have not made that decision.

Pictured below and circled in yellow is the newly added super deadly chunk of plastic that frightens the hoplophobes in the state government. They don't like flash suppressors either so I have a muzzle brake device (which actually suppresses the minimal muzzle flash as well) instead. This stock simply makes the rifle much more comfortable to shoot for someone like me with arthritis in both shoulders. The receiver, bolt, and trigger group which actually operate the gun are factory. The red dot sight is a SIG Romeo 5 with co-witness mounts so the factory peep sights are still visible. In reality, this stock is much more dangerous as a fucking club! The only way for me to shorten the factory stock I have is to permanently alter it on a bandsaw. Ruger includes a bunch of filler plates to make it longer. I currently have it as short as possible with a QD sling mount plate installed.

I have 200 rounds of 9mm loaded and ready to go. I had planned on loading another 150 before today's outing but life happens. I'll just shoot what I need today and since my press is currently set up for 9mm, just replenish today's use and the do the 150 at the same time.

The Murder Rate Is Plummeting!

But it can't be due to the actions of the Orange Man Bad's Administration and their actions now, can it?

You know, things like; closing the border, deporting illegal alien invaders (they are ALL criminals, some are just worse than others), supporting law enforcement, sending the National Guard into blue shithole cities, and the outright killing of narco terrorists on the high seas. How about the fact that they're not engaged with infringing on Second Amendment Rights and more armed citizens are carrying firearms for personal self defense? And to the Second Amendment, how about all those lawsuit wins against unconstitutional infringements thanks to real 2A defender organizations (not the useless NRA) like Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), and Gun Owners of America (GOA). There are several 2A cases headed for SCOTUS.

But the Demon-Craps, talking heads in their propaganda media machine, and the average TDS sufferers will poo-poo those achievements and try to come up with some other non-reason reason and in the process try to take some scrap of credit.

Although this is good news, DO NOT BECOME COMPLACENT. Stay vigilant and stay strapped, even in your own home. The gun in the safe is useless and you are behind the "8-Ball" when they are kicking in your door.

Do You Get It Now?

There is no such thing as "Radical Islam"

There is only Islam, and they are at war with us "non-believers" as declared by the worldwide intifada.

Stay strapped 7/24/365 and respond in kind with extreme malice if you find yourself confronted with jihad. This guy amazingly disarmed one of the goat fuckers at Bondi Beach while being unarmed himself. That's fucking BATMAN SHIT right there!

The U.S. on the other hand... needs a permanent solution. Pulling the Enola Gay out of the Smithsonian and getting her airborne to deliver the "package" would be fucking epic!

National Firearms Appreciation Day

Sunday December 14th is what I always refer to as National Firearms Appreciation Day. It is also the 13th anniversary of something else, which I will not mention but instead use the words of Minnesota Somali whore Ilhan Omar to only say "some people did something."

Go out and buy a new firearm or maybe several if you can afford to. A large quantity of ammunition (like those 13,889 round barrels of 5.56mm from Hornady). Or accessories like optics, holsters, slings, carrying cases, cleaning supplies, etc. Maybe use the opportunity to invest in reloading equipment and start loading your own ammo. On a personal note; I used to think reloading was a chore that cheap old bastards engaged in because they were too cheap to buy commercial ammo. Until I got into it. I had bought a used Lee Pro 1000 with .45ACP dies that also included a Lee single stage press for $250, and didn't set it up for over 10 years. It supposedly had some minor "issues" that all turned out to be former operator error. In fact it turned out the guy was a fucking moron. Then I found out how interesting and fun it is to load my own. I have as much fun spending a few hours at the bench in my basement on a shitty weather day loading ammo as I do sending it down range. Maybe take your initial NRA Pistol Safety Class, state Hunter Safety Class, or some practical self defense firearm training.

Just do something firearms related by exercising your Second Amendment rights that day, and remember... the anti-gun tyrants and hoplophobes blame US for all gun violence that occurs because WE have the audacity to exercise our rights peaceably as Free Citizens.

Had A Visitor

How well do you know your wildlife scat (poop)?

Large, black, and full of bird seed is the sure sign of a Black Bear. This was located in a grassy parking area on the right side of the driveway heading up towards the house and was not there a couple of days ago. My little poodle rescue girl found it and "pointed it out to me" by paying too much attention to it. I texted my neighbor that I had something to show him and to stop by on his way home from work. He did and we had a poop viewing party. He was shocked to say the least.

In the 20 years we have lived in the woods, I have never seen a bear on my property, but this is the third sure sign. In 2005 or 2006 my dogs found a similar pile in the woods right behind my house where our fire pit is now. In 2016, we woke up to find an ornamental iron "shepherd's hook" bent flat to the ground, and the suet cake basket at the top crushed, mangled, and empty. My bird feeders are now high up in a tree with a rope and pulley system. But the birds drop seed all over the ground which the squirrels, chipmunks, and ground feeding birds mostly eat. I figure the bear was probably licking it all up.

I have had my Marlin 336 in .30-30 handy since a fox was hanging around near the chicken yard a few days ago. At the time all I had handy was my 9mm G-17. I should have braced myself on the deck railing but I didn't and given the distance firing off-hand, I missed. Twice. Now with a bear in the vicinity the rifle was handy last night when I was in bed. I am on a 24 at the FD so there will be no predator control until tomorrow. My wife certainly won't pick up the slack.

"This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

It is loaded with 150gr Federal soft-point ammo. The ammo is rated for white tail deer and is probably overkill for the fox and a little light for bear. I have the same ammo in 170gr but that is way too heavy for the fox. The scope is a Bushnell Trophy and the rifle is sighted in at 100 yards. 3 shot groups are covered by a Kennedy half-dollar. For the 170gr ammo I just hold high about 2 inches. Well placed shots will be the order of the day. I don't hunt and never have, but I bought this 1971 vintage rifle with the scope mount when I started raising chickens and discovered I did not have a good varmint/predator rifle. $265 plus tax back in 2007 when every gun shop had a well stocked used gun display.

Carried In GFDZ's Today

Not once, but twice.

Our local school held their annual Veteran Breakfast and program. I was armed with my Ruger LCP in a pocket holster. Not my preferred firearm for cold weather, but better than nothing and perfect for deep cover. Absolutely no chance of anyone inadvertently catching a glimpse of my firearm or holster. I was deep inside the school, full of students, faculty, and other veterans from town. No one there was EVER in danger, regardless of what panty-peeing hoplophobes or anti-gun tyrants want you to think. But you know who would have been in danger? Anyone wishing to carry out mass murder unopposed.

From there, I went to the Post Office to mail a bunch of first class items. The USPS is closed for the federal holiday but the P.O. Box lobby is open and I used the inside mail drop. It is debatable whether I actually violated the law, since postal carry prohibitions have been declared unconstitutional in the U.S. 5th District. These constitutional rulings cover the 5th District region of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, as well as anyone that was a member of the FPC (Firearms Policy Coalition) and the SAF (Second Amendment Foundation) of which I am a Life Member of the latter when the ruling came down. Those gun rights organizations were plaintiffs in the case, therefore the ruling applies to their members.

GFDZ's will always cease to exist when I am there.

To The Range Today

My wife was out of town at a Christmas Craft Fair at Mohegan Sun, so I just felt like throwing some long range lead today out to 200 yards this afternoon. I only took 30 rounds with me and at that just shot 12 in a little less than 2 hours. Set up and break down took quite a bit of time. My rifle is zeroed to 100 yards. Using my dope card I dialed up the windage and elevation required to get out to 200. The 7.62x54r cartridge shoots a hair flatter than .308 with a 100 yard zero. Out to 200 the .308 drops 3.7 inches but the 7.62x54r drops 3.6

I got mixed results. I cleaned the bore and then touched off a fouling shot at the 200 yard gong. A previous shooter painted all the plates black, which is hard to see with a black reticle that most scopes have, So I painted a white spot in the middle. My hit is circled.

Next I took aim at this Birchwood-Casey spatter type bullseye target. The first shot was right on the line of the 9-10 ring at about 11 o'clock. The next one was just above it. The third shot was just above the red center at 12 o'clock. A little disappointing to say the least. On the other hand, it's been about 7 months since the last time I did some long range shooting.

I then moved over to this target also made by Birchwood-Casey. The next two shots were at the large center diamond. First shot was left, the second was right. Geez, I am really sucking today! The shot in the upper left small diamond was later in the session and after the next shot.

Just for ha-ha's I took a shot at the thick disk lying on it's side. It too, had been painted black so I rotated it for an unshot surface and sprayed about a 3" diameter spot of white. I had hit this target before and just like then, I put one round dead center where I was aiming. That's when I decided to go back to the target with diamond and aim for the upper left one pretty confident I was gonna punch the center. DAMMIT! off by about an inch. WTF?

I did an internet search on what my problem could be. Basically the response was "aim small, hit small." So I tested that theory with my next 3 shots against some rocks I rounded up a little bigger that my fist. I hit each one with one shot at 200 yards turning them into clouds of dust. Apparently my trouble is all psychological because it certainly isn't my equipment.

This last shot was because I don't like odd numbers and wanted to shoot an even 12. This was at the 75 yard gong without readjusting my scope but holding low on a guesstimate. Centered by windage and just a bit low on elevation.

This rifle performs better than I can make it unless I spend a lot more time at the range with it and make a shit ton more ammo. But knowing that the purpose of this rifle is to engage and destroy "man sized" targets of opportunity from a hidey hole in a case of FAFO, I need to not be so hard on myself. Every one of today's 12 shots would have produced satisfactory results, and unlike the SEAL snipers in the movie "Captain Phillips," I won't be lying prone on the fantail of a pitching naval destroyer while taking aim at an also pitching small craft with bad guys inside.

Unplanned Range Time

I had 50 rounds of my reloaded 9mm to burn up from my last outing. When I reload, I try to do 200 rounds per caliber. I decided to get some range time in with my newest gun, the G-17. Since putting on the adjustable sights my aim has been much better. I grabbed my new OnYour6Designs holster to do some timed draw and shoot as long as no one else was at the range. Excellent! I had the place to myself.

I started with some basic target practice at 10 yards and then the 25 yard hanging plates. With 20 rounds left, I moved the target stand to self defense range of 7 yards. I strapped on my holster, put up a B-27 humanoid silhouette, and broke out my roll of masking tape to cover holes. My shot timer was set for shot strings, a 1 to 9 second random start, and a PAR time of 10 seconds. Most of my shot strings are less than 5 seconds, but since I hadn't done timed shooting in a long time I left it set where it was. I shot seven strings, but somehow didn't record the 7th before clearing the timer data. I started with 2-shot center mass hits only, then moved to "Mozambique Drills" aka "Hearts & Minds" (two to the chest and one to the cranium). See the data below.

String #1  5.04 seconds *

Shot #1 2.17   Shot #2 2.87

String #2  4.24 seconds *

Shot #1 2.01   Shot #2 2.23

String #3  2.81

Shot #1 2.00  Shot #2 0.81

String #4  4.12  +

Shot #1 1.94  Shot #2 1.05   Shot #3 1.13

String #5  4.42  +

Shot #1 1.93  Shot #2 1.11   Shot #3 1.38

String #6  4.88  +

Shot #1 2.50  Shot #2 1.19  Shot #3 1.19

* FTF malfunction on second shot that had to be cleared. Good training element and came in under time. I attribute to my reloaded target ammo. It only did it twice.

+ Mozambique Drills. First 2 shots were center mass, 3rd shot to the head.

The target was hit satisfactorily every time. The gun will be cleaned and lubed tomorrow and stowed until carrying in cooler weather or the need arises. I am confident in my abilities to carry this firearm safely and effectively. Next practice session will be after I load some rounds. Carry ammo will be my normal Hornady Critical Defense 115gr JHP rounds.

Plans For Cooler Weather

And more layers of clothing to easily conceal a handgun and spare mags. I am planning on carrying my full size Glock G-17 loaded with Hornady Critical Defense 115gr JHP rounds and two spare mags. In anticipation of this, I ordered and received yet another kydex OWB holster and mag carrier in black from OnYour6Designs.com to fit it. An initial test fit showed another well made product, that held my gun and mags securely, and when I have time I will figure out whether or not to cant the holster. All of this easily hides under a loose fitting flannel, fleece pullover, zippered hoodie, or when necessary a suit jacket. For normal times I will stick with the Kommiecticut legal 10 rounders, which I also have a half dozen always loaded up with Federal HST 147 gr JHP for the PCC-9. If things start getting spicier the carbine goes in the truck in a soft sided case that accommodates the mags. The pistol ammo will be changed over to the Federal so the mags can go in either weapon since the PCC-9 sports the Glock mag well.

But if things continue to go sideways I may break out the super deadly 17 rounders I have squirreled away for SHTF. The problem is getting "caught" with magazines over 10 rounds and making my "paper felonies" real ones.

Range Day Tomorrow

My brother and sister-in-law, my niece and her husband will all be my guests at my club range tomorrow morning. They will all have to fill out waivers first and I need to put them on file. I will then review The Four Rules of Gun Safety (I literally beat these into people's heads) and the club range rules and procedures. I facilitated the gun purchase for my brother of a brand new S & W "Victory" in .22LR that another friend was looking to unload so I know he'll be shooting that. I'm not sure what else they will bring. For me, I think I will just bring my PCC-9 and G-17. That way I can also act as R.S.O. while everyone else is shooting.

Range Report 8-3-25

Sunny and a bit on the warm side (especially in the sun) with temps in the low 80`s with low humidity. I had two goals in mind; work on the problem I had in this post with my CMP Tisas 1911A1. Scroll down to the bottom to read what was happening and my proposed testing to figure out the problem. I also wanted to try out my new shooting mat from MidwayUSA. The last time I remember shooting prone was in the military so this was going to be a new experience for sure.

I got to the range about 10:20 this morning, well after the 10:00 allowed start time. First thing I did was pull my weed-whacker out of my truck and trim the grass around the range house. Then I used my backpack blower to clear away all the debris and leaves. What do I find sitting on the floor of the range house in the corner? An empty Jack Daniels bottle with half a swallow of whiskey on the bottom. Alcohol is forbidden on the ranges by both club rules and state law and apparently someone thinks that does not apply to them. I took photos of it and locked the bottle in my truck for safe keeping.

Next was range inspection. As a club Range Safety Officer I always walk the range out to the 200 yard backstop and back, stopping at all the shorter range backstops whether I am there to shoot or just passing by. Once again, the bullet trap angled 8'x4' Hardox 450 plate at 100 yards has been freshly damaged by penetrator ammo in what appears to be 30 caliber. Photos were taken for evidence, since this is now the third time this has happened. I sent all the photos I took to the range chairman and am currently awaiting his return phone call as I write this.

As I was getting ready to shoot, a few guys showed up after Trap to shoot handguns. I decided to hold off on my activities and act as R.S.O. just to keep an eye on things. The rule is you can't be an effective R.S.O. and participate in shooting activities at the same time. No safety violations occurred and the guys weren't there all that long. I was able to start checking out my 1911A1 after they left. I field stripped it, and taking just the barrel while holding it muzzle down, plunked (dropped) some random Winchester factory rounds of 230 gr "hardball" into the breech. Every round settled all the way in as expected. I then tried it with random rounds of my target reloads. AHA! most of the rounds did not seat properly. It turns out that the end of the case is not crimped. Next time I load some .45ACP I need to check to make sure the die is a little lower in the turret, and back off the bullet seat adjustment to get a proper crimp and case overall length. My old Colt Government Model 1911, my Glock 21, my S&W Governor (revolver with full moon clips), and my 45 Shield didn't seem to have any issues with these rounds that I loaded quite a while back. I re-assembled the 1911A1 and proceeded to run mag after mag of the Winchester ammo through it with zero malfunctions. I did all my shooting unrested at 25 yards and repeatedly dinged the steel plates. I shot at a B-27 human torso target at 25 yards and it was obvious I would be able to qualify to Army standards with my pistol. Satisfied with the operation and results I packed it away. I police up my brass after every mag and after I was finished shooting two were still missing. I looked everywhere including the open top trash can but never found them. But what I did find in the trash REALLY pissed me off.... a fucking Coors Light can. It had no bullet holes in it so it wasn't used as a target. More evidence of alcohol consumption at the range. All I have to say is God help them if I catch them. Certain members obviously see nothing wrong with this behavior, but if I catch them, as an elected officer of the club, I will recommend that they instantly and permanently lose their membership, as well as be banned from the club facilities FOR LIFE!! How you like me now, fuckers.... place my range in legal jeopardy will ya?

Now it was time for the prone shooting from my new mat. I would be using my US Patriot 1775 sniper rifle in 7.62x54r. I went down and set up a target at 100 yards and freshly painted the steel gong for verifying my 100 yard zero. I then headed out to the 200 yard backstop to place a Birchwood-Casey spatter target with an orange decal 2"bullseye, and a fresh coat of white paint on the large round hanging gong and the chunky steel disc lying on its side. Satisfied, I headed back to the firing line area.

I got down on the mat, set up the rifle for 100 yards, dropped a fresh round in front of the bolt and sent it into battery. Because of the staggered layout of our backstops, I was unable to see the bullseye target but could see the gong. Instead I took aim at the center of the freshly painted round steel gong and sent it. The 2 1/2 pound set Timney Trigger breaks crisp and clean and the round impacted dead center of the gong. Satisfied with my standard zero, I then set up the rifle for 200 yards.

This took some doing, and as I found out, I am all out of sorts trying to maintain hold, arm position, the stock on my shoulder, eye relief, cheek weld... it's all different lying prone as opposed to sitting at a bench. While breathing is easy to control, timing the shot with my heartbeat is more important and difficult lying on my chest. Using my known dope for 200 yards I dialed up 2" of elevation and 1" of windage to the left. The first round I sent down range was dead center but high. The next 3 or 4 were also high. Weird, I thought but then I took aim at the gong for a couple of shots. Better, but still a little high. I dialed the elevation back down one click and took aim at the chunky disc lying on its side. I put all 3 shots in a nice little group in the center. After 10 rounds I was done shooting for the day and went down range to retrieve my targets. As I was walking back, the gunsmith that cut and crowned my barrel and is also a club member was just getting his stuff out of his car. He builds precision rifles and shoots long range precision competitively. I told him what I experienced shooting prone. He told me that everything changes and that I will need to document the differences if I am going to shoot from different positions. I waited until he went down range to set up his windage flags and targets before touching my firearms to case and move to my truck. I loaded everything up and was headed to the clubhouse for a cold drink before he even fired a shot. As I was getting in my truck another younger member showed up to do some shootin'.

Declined, Not Denied

I received an email a little while ago from the CMP regarding my application to purchase a U.S. surplus 1911. I filed this application last year for the current round of pistol sales, but the more I thought about it, I really just wanted a 1911 to shoot. I have an early 1980's vintage Colt MKIV Series 70 that I have customized with many upgrades for shooting bowling pins. It is not set up for personal defense or casual shooting and has a shiny blued finish. The CMP pistols are pretty expensive for what they are, and that is strictly a case of supply and demand. They are allowing individuals to buy up to four now. There are four grades of pistols for sale and you get to choose the grade from what is available, but not the actual pistol. From the CMP website:

Service Grade $1300. Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.

Field Grade $1200. Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.

SOLD OUT – Range Grade – $1150. These are 1911 pistols for those that want a part of history and a shooter, not a collectable. These are 1911s that have been modified in some way, and may have some commercial parts.  No two (2) pistols are alike, the modifications / parts could be any of the following: Night Sights, extended Beaver Tail, Rubber Grips, Barrels, Oversized Slide Release, Target Triggers, Adjustable Rear Sights, Tactical Match Hammer, Competition Grip Safety, Sight Rib, Slides, Checkered Front Strap, Ambidextrous Safety, Different Finishes. Some of the manufactures of these parts are: Bar-Sto, Wilson, Ed Brown, Pachmayer, Hogue, Caspian and Bomar.

Rack Grade $1100. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition but is functional. Pistols may contain commercial parts.

When I initially filed my application, I was planning on requesting a "Service Grade" pistol. After all, if I were to spend $1100 on a junk 1911, I'll spend $200 more for the best I can get. There were a couple of updates regarding the rate of order processing and it was going slow. Initially my application was supposed to come up late April/early May. Then that got changed to July. Well here it is the 7th and I got my email stating my order is in process. Here was my brief response:

"I am going to pass on purchasing one of these 1911's. I cannot justify the cost for a gun I just wanted to shoot. Instead, back in February I purchased a Tisas CMP 1911 which fills my needs perfectly."

That's right. Long after I filed my application, the CMP offered up these Tisas CMP 1911A1 pistols for $499.99. This is how they come.

A close up of the special CMP markings.

The guns are Cerakoted instead of parkerized, and I replaced the walnut grips with the plastic ones I seem to remember the ones in my unit having. They are stamped "United States Property" and "M1911 A1 US Army CMP". I have only had it out for one range outing and was having issues with the gun going fully into battery using my reloads. I could force it into battery with a rap from the heel of my hand, but it did this once with each mag of ammo. It definitely is not a spring issue because it is quite stiff. I have not gotten back to it yet, but I believe I need to tweak the extractor because that what it feels like, but may also try a box of commercial hardball ammo. Accuracy at 25 yards was what I expected since I fired it from a rest first and I should improve my marksmanship with updated eye glasses.
