I got to see the latest 55 Starlink satellites traverse the sky right over my house tonight. I happened to be outside locking up the chicken coop when I remembered the news story from earlier, and noticed the time was near. I ran into the house and killed all the lights, came back out and started scanning the skies. Woo Hoo! there they were going southwest to northeast almost straight up overhead. It only took a couple of minutes until they passed into the Earth's shadow and winked out one at a time. I didn't expect that, I figured they would fly past where I could see them.

The only other space type thing I ever saw was the ISS passing overhead one time.

Years ago on a Florida vacation we all went to Cocoa Beach on the day of a shuttle launch to watch it go up. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue scrubbed the launch until well after we returned home to Kommiecticut. So tonight was pretty exciting.

A Coupla Items

I have been working on this post since Friday afternoon, but have been interrupted by emergency calls and a busy schedule all today. I just restarted writing and plugging in photos at 9:15 PM this evening.

Loading ammo

I am in the process of loading some .357 Magnum target ammo that runs just under 1100 fps. I use either Federal or Remington brass. My recipe is Berry's 158 grain copper plated flat point bullets, 9.3 grains of Hogdgon HS-6 powder (.66 on the Lee Disk Powder Measure), and Winchester Magnum Small Pistol primers. Since these are for my six-guns or my Marlin 1894CB lever gun, I am not as picky with my brass as I am for my semi-autos. With semi-autos, conventional reloading wisdom is to separate brass by manufacturer for better consistency of the action, which at the level I shoot at is more about satisfying my OCD than anything else. Thursday night I did a run of 100 rounds of .357 Magnum. I plan on doing another 100 rounds when I have another block of uninterrupted time.

I run a Lee PRO-1000 3-die progressive press for my handgun ammo. When I finished for the night, I removed the primer tray and cleared the chute, then removed and emptied the powder hopper. I keep the press dust and dirt free by covering it with a dreaded (and banned in Kommiecticut) plastic shopping bag.

Lee makes changing caliber easy by offering turret plates that lock into place, allowing the dies to stay seated and adjusted. All of my handgun dies are permanently mounted on turret plates. This one that I am currently using is for both .38 Special and .357 Magnum. The dies simply get backed out two full turns to accommodate the longer .357 Magnum rounds. I then fine tune the bullet seating die and measure with a caliper for an over all length (OAL) of 1.585". When I set up the press for a new caliber, I run several "dummy" test rounds with bullets but no powder or primers and measure the OAL. The bullets are then taken apart with a kinetic bullet puller and the components reused. I mark this particular turret with some gray electrical tape and a Sharpie for how it was last setup and used.

The other thing that needs to be changed for caliber is either just the shell plate or the whole shell plate carrier. I have two shell plate carriers; one is setup for large pistol primers, the one pictured below is set for small pistol primers. The shell plate needs to be changed to accommodate the particular caliber. The #1 shell plate in place is for .38 Special/.357 Magnum.

If you look closely at the #2 shell plate, you will see dimples all over it. That was caused by the moron that originally owned my press slapping the operating lever up and down, which throws off the rotational timing of the shell plate. Movement of the operating lever is supposed to be smooth up and down. Those dimples were caused by the primer decapping pin slamming into the surface of the plate. It should never make such contact, but come down over one of the three holes in the shell plate where a shell would be sitting.

My current plan is to load 200 rounds of 9mm after I complete the .357 Magnum. Once I get another 100 round ammo box I can load an additional 100 rounds of .38 Special. Right now I would have no place to put them.

 

My sportsman's club 

I have been a probationary member since December 2020. Probationary status is reviewed annually with the probie standing up in front of the membership to talk about their activities and work for the club. Then other members have the opportunity to get up and speak about the member if they have something to say. The member is excused from the room and a secret paper ballot is held whether to allow the probation to continue. In January, the membership voted unanimously to renew my membership status for being an active member in good standing. At our recent February monthly meeting, the three probationary members that were ahead of me got moved up by membership vote to full regular membership, leaving me the most senior probie next in line.

I found out Thursday that another regular member slot has opened up. When I asked the membership chairman about it, he confirmed that fact and said he would be presenting me to the Executive Committee for preliminary approval at their February meeting. The following week at the March monthly meeting, I will be presented to the membership as a candidate to become a regular member. I refer to it like the Mafia, becoming a "made" guy because that's what it feels like. After becoming a regular member, I plan on becoming an official committee member for both the Range and Kitchen Committees.

 

Kommiecticut DOT train and bus commercials

I wish there were videos to plug in here but there aren't yet. Searches came up blank for those commercials. I'll do my best to describe them.

In the past week or so, I have been seeing commercials on TV and hearing them on local radio for riding the trains and buses instead of driving your own car. In the spots, they "interview" riders (that are obviously actors) about why they ride mass transit. They babble about all kinds of reasons; read a book, listen to music on headphones while watching the scenery go by (really?), watch a movie, catch up on their latest streaming series, save the planet (HA!), etc. Everything except being aware of your surroundings and situationally aware. In another life when I worked in technology, I would have to go Boston quite often.

Most of the time I did not need my company vehicle full of tools and materials, just a small tool bag and my laptop. On those trips, I would park at the "T" Riverside Station in West Newton, MA and take the Green Line "D Train" into the city. From Park Street Station I could switch train lines to anywhere else in the city I needed to go. I was always armed with a tactical folder and stood in the stations or outdoor platforms with my back to the wall, giving me a 180 degree view of the platform. On the train I would position myself to watch the car entry doors for who got on, the ability for a quick exit, as well as the ends of the car for people moving between cars. I never slept or occupied myself with anything other than observing my surroundings. Everyone around me would be totally oblivious to everything around them. Think Col. Cooper's "Condition White." More than once, I bailed off the train at a stop because of who or what got on, and just got on the next train by in a couple of minutes. I remember riding the train a couple of times when they were crowded, and being the only person aboard not being a mesmerized zombie. I thought how easy it would be to walk down the center aisle with an ice pick in each hand and simply and silently kill an entire train car of people.

Governor "Jolly Ned" Lamont feeling emboldened by his re-election has laid out his anti-Second Amendment agenda for his second term. Nothing more than yet another round of unconstitutional/intolerable acts that will all be challenged in court, joining the multitude of pending lawsuits already filed. This post speaks to just one proposal, making open carry in the state of Kommiecticut illegal. While it sounds like just another solution in search of a problem.... it is actually much more. I say it is evil.

Very few people, myself included, actually open carry in the state. It is currently legal because by actually following constitutional principles, something is legal until it is outlawed. Kommiecticut has never had laws against open carry. That said, waltzing into a crowded shopping mall openly strapped will result in frightened hoplophobes calling the Po-Po. The Po-Po will arrive, guns drawn and arrest that individual, confiscate their firearm and pistol permit, and charge them with breach of peace and other bogus minor charges. That person will then spend big bucks to get a lawyer, go to court, have all charges summarily dismissed, and get their permit and firearm back. All they are in the end is hundreds of dollars poorer and publicly humiliated. I open carry in my home, on my property, walking my dog on my back country road, or hiking in the woods. Otherwise I am concealed and no one is the wiser.

So here is the dirty little secret. Because of what I just explained, the intention is to create a trap, that will do more than just steal your money and humiliate you, YOU WILL NOW BE AN ACTUAL CRIMINAL! Have the audacity to open carry and real criminal charges and penalties will be incurred. So no one in their right mind will attempt such a thing. What the REAL intention is, will be to nail to the wall any gun owners with a bulge in their jacket, or if they were to bend down to pick something up and maybe that nearby hoplophobe "thinks they see a firearm" or the breeze blows your shirt open exposing your concealed firearm and you can bet LE is coming for you. They cannot stand the fact that so many permit holders like myself carry everywhere every day.

Does any of this affect the criminal element. Absolutely not. If a criminal does get caught with a firearm illegally, those charges normally just get plead down or away. No... the intent is ALWAYS to target the peaceable gun owners of this state. Because you see, we have all been damned and condemned for every crime committed with a gun and every mass shooting, simply because we have the nerve to exercise our God given right to self defense instead of depending on the state for such things.

As an aside, I love it when women wear fur. When I met my wife, she wore a super soft and very sexy rabbit fur jacket in the winter. If I decide to hit the blog "Kill Switch," like I had to once before, it all disappears forever except for any screen captures.

In the past 24 hours, Goolag by way of Blogger has now added an additional step of age verification after you click the "I UNDERSTAND AND I WISH TO CONTINUE" button. Unfortunately, it forces you to log in with or create a Goolag account to proceed.

Is not for me. Researching, critical thinking, stating my OWN opinions, trial and error, and writing of all kinds is terrific mental exercise. Editing, grammar, sentence and paragraph structure, and correct spelling are time consuming, yes, at times. But when I have a stream of consciousness spewing forth from my fingertips, I get just as lost in my thoughts as I do reading a good book. Throwing an idea into an AI program and accepting what comes out is not me. I even enjoy the painstaking task of writing technical documentation and used to write them for previous employers. I have written my own for things like my generator and reloading pistol and rifle ammo.

The lowering of flags for the victims of mass murders is frivolous stupid virtue signalling and propaganda. Gov. Get Ready America, For More Kommiecticut Style Gun Control

First a little history:

On January 31, 2018, 15 year old Ethan Song of Guilford, Kommiecticut accidentally negligently blew his brains out with a .357 Magnum handgun belonging to his friend's father.

Because of this incident, useless and idiotic laws were passed in Kommiecticut regarding storage and accessibility of firearms. Critically thinking people know that laws like these can never prevent such a future tragedy from occurring, because they will just simply become something a real moron (like say the drug dealer or gang-banger that keeps the loaded gun under the couch cushion for his baby mama's kids to find) gets charged with AFTER the tragic shooting of another kid. The real hope and intent is to frighten legitimate gun owners from keeping a firearm handy for self-defense, or (God forbid!) providing one to their responsible minor children. There are thousands of stories out there of minor children defending themselves or their family with a firearm from all over the country. Laws don't deter me one little bit, but then I am a proponent of every kind of non-compliance. This is the type of intolerable/unconstitutional act the gun-grabbing hoplophobes that make up our entire congressional delegation and populate this state want to take nationwide.

Ethan Song is dead. Do you know why? Lots of stupidity. First and foremost:

1). His parents never taught him to mind your own fucking business and leave other peoples private property alone. He went into a closet in a master bedroom in someone else's home and opened a closed container not belonging to him or his equally stupid friend. They supposedly did this many times... until the last time.

2). They also obviously never taught him one item of gun safety. EVERY CHILD SHOULD LEARN  BASIC GUN SAFETY!! Depending on the age and maturity it should at least be Eddie Eagle's "STOP-RUN AWAY-TELL AN ADULT." I constantly preach Col. Cooper's Four Rules of Gun Safety.

3). Ethan did not possess the critical thinking skills that might lead a normal person to conclude that being unfamiliar with, loading, and fucking around with any firearm WILL have bad/deadly consequences.

We can debate the wisdom of the storage methods of the gun owner, Daniel Markle all day long. Bottom line, his guns were locked, the keys were "hidden" (although not very well) and HE WAS LEGAL! Since he was legal, he was not charged in Ethan's death. But that's the rub, they want to make new standards that can potentially disarm you. I personally keep certain defensive ammo with my secured (in a safe) firearms in a locked and hardened (as well as alarmed and monitored) closet. After at least 2 hours work to force their way into the alarmed closet, an unauthorized person would now be staring at a pair of safes and if they entered my house when I wasn't there, hearing the alarm siren blaring as state police are automatically notified. That is provided they somehow didn't set off the alarm just entering the house. The loaded and ready gun(s) is either holstered on my person, or next to my head on the nightstand while I sleep and my EDC loaded and ready in the holster in the open safe for work the next day. That minimizes the noise in the early morning while I get ready for work and my wife is asleep. I actually sleep in a modified version of Col. Cooper's "Condition Yellow." While I certainly get good rest every night, my decades as a Firefighter/EMT find me wide awake in an instant when either my fire pager, the house alarm siren sounds or the dogs all start barking.

So here we go again. The same old tired retreads pushing the same old tired anti-gun intolerable/unconstitutional acts. Watch the video to spin up your anger meter.

• From Ethan's father; "I no longer have the freedom to hug my child and to watch the trajectory of his life. That freedom was stolen from me." Notice how he equates and purposely inserts the word freedom. That is all on you sir, for FAILING MISERABLY as a parent. The "freedoms" of others is not up for debate or negotiable. Going after our enumerated CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to bear arms as we see fit is not a factor in your son's final act of stupidity. If anyone stole the  freedom you bemoan, it was YOUR OWN SON.
  
• The reporter next tells us how Ethan "accidentally shot himself." No, that was pure negligence. There was no malfunction of the gun. He pulled the trigger on a loaded firearm while pointing it in an unsafe direction, and it went BANG!!
• Ah yes, now we see Senator Slimeball (Richard "Da Nang Dickie" Blumenthal) hugging poor Ethan's (equally culpable) mother. They say the most dangerous place in the world is between Sen. Slimeball and a camera. He is tied with Senator Fishface (Chris Murphy) for those in federal government pushing the most for total civilian disarmament. And both of those assholes come from my state of Kommiecticut.
• The reporter goes on to say how the proposed legislation "would create strict penalties for any violation." How are you going to do that again? Routine and surprise inspections at the residence of firearms owners? No... you will charge someone with an additional new crime AFTER there has been a negligent discharge shooting of some kid. You won't save a single life, because you can't without violating 4th and 5th Amendment rights of citizens SO STOP THE BULLSHIT! But hey, you will now be able to charge the homeowner under Ethan's Law after he/she shoots and kills an armed home invader because the gun was out of storage, right? That would be a feature, not a bug.
  
• Next up, Ethan's mother says his death was not an outlier (which of course it certainly was) by tying in the nightly mayhem and death on the streets of Every City, USA caused by the feral street animals. And made worse by soft on crime Demon-Crap policies running the shithole cities. She then goes on to make up a non-numerical statistic that YOUR CHILD is more likely to be killed by a gun than by any other means.
  
• Oh look! At the 1:07 mark the original Angry Bird and well known slum lord (US Rep. Rosa DeLauro) makes an appearance. BARF!!
• At the 1:28 mark Sen. Slimeball tells us that "millions of children are living in households with unsafely stored guns..." and standing behind him to the left is his gal pal Sen. Fishface. More bullshit as they tell us again how such a law would have saved Ethan's life. Not even remotely true. Daniel Markle would have been held criminally responsible, and Ethan would STILL BE DEAD.

Side Note:

Safe storage of firearms does not necessarily mean they have to be locked up and inaccessible. Remember open gun racks and glass door gun cabinets? The most important safety on a firearm is the gray matter in your skull. When I was a kid (maybe 10) I remember playing in a basement rec room at a neighbor's house. The Dad was an annual pheasant hunter. In the back corner of the closet in the rec room were his shotguns. We were told they were there and not to touch them. I never saw them because I never looked for them, nor did any of us kids. The act of even looking for them would have resulted in at least 5 beatings. The first from the kid that lived in the house to prevent access to the closet because he would be guilty by association and eligible for his own beatings. Then from the kid's mother and next his father when he came home from work. Then one each from my own parents; first Mom when I got home and then dad when he got home from work. Those beatings never actually occurred because they never had to. Also, I was never exposed to guns growing up so to me at that time they were just objects of extreme danger. I was probably 14 or 15 before I ever saw and handled a real firearm, courtesy of my Uncle Eddie who worked at Smith and Wesson. His guns were all stored in his bedroom closet and I'm sure his seven kids knew they were there. I never knew until he showed me and I never looked for them after.

Contact your state congressional delegation and tell them to oppose this legislation. I won't bother calling mine, because they are all adamantly in support of it. Telling them I am opposed gets me a "thank you for contacting me" form letter and then promptly ignored.

I make sure I wear NO IDENTIFIABLE clothing (like from the FD) so that I can freely get right up in a Karen or a Karl's face to frighten the bejeezus out of them for having the nerve to scold me for breathing free without a MOP (Mask Of Oppression). There are no mandates... yet... but I am sure it is just a matter of time. While I have seen more elderly and sheeple wearing them lately, the majority is simply ignoring the fear propaganda.

I currently have either a head cold or sinus issue with no fever. I take Tylenol "Severe Sinus" to relieve symptoms if they become unbearable, mostly the sinus pressure behind my eyeballs. MLK Day 2023

The legacy of Martin Luther King has been diminished and IMHO totally trashed by any #LIBTURDS that associate the dead piece of shit street thug from Minneapolis, Saint George of Fentanyl or BLM with anything Dr. King and the civil rights movement accomplished. There were several local news stories today that reported just that.

Fucking Robots

Saw this story on Newsmax this morning from the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show. A robot named Adam that makes tea and espresso. There was no video from Newsmax, this video is from YouTube.

Whether making drinks or cleaning the floor at the local Stop & Shop, the end result is going to be EVERY dystopian "machines rule the world" movie.

Wreaths Across America 2022

Up and out early this past Saturday morning to the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. My parents and several other family members are interred there. The Patriot Guard Riders nationwide play a huge role in this event. The truck convoy carrying the wreaths gets an escort. We stand flag lines for the ceremonies in the cemeteries as well as lay wreaths, and in January assist cemetery crews and other volunteers with picking them all up for recycling. I join the CT P.G.R. at the state cemetery in Middletown for wreath pickup. Because of the recent crummy weather only a couple of local MA guys had their bikes, everyone else was on four wheels.

Because this event has grown so large, parking for most volunteers is remote and they get brought in by shuttle bus. Six Flags New England provided the parking lots and free shuttle buses. The P.G.R. had our own coned off parking area because we were doing a police escorted procession to the cemetery. The ceremony was to begin at 10:00 so at 09:15 we did our procession, got parked, and assembled our flag lines. A lot of citizen volunteers were already in the cemetery so they got to see us roll in. We parked, assembled our flags, and lined up. We had a service flag held by a P.G.R. member behind the respective service monument as well a a POW/MIA and Gold Star flag. The rest of us had U.S. flags and formed a semi-circle behind the speaker's platform.

The ceremony was short and sweet, covered heavily by local media, and I heard several crowd estimates of 500+. It was opened by the singing of The Star Spangled Banner and Pledge of Allegiance performed by a local Army veteran. There was a guy that was the M.C., a short speech by the event organizer, and a short speech by the cemetery director. There were several politicians in attendance that were recognized but not allowed to speak. The rifle volleys were fired and taps was played by two local high school students. The ceremony concluded and it was time to lay wreaths. I missed last year and was told that this year was run differently and was structured to make sure no one bailed on the ceremony. Also, distribution of wreaths was much more controlled. Sounds like last year was a free for all.

I stowed my flag and quickly hoofed up the hill to get a wreath for my parent's grave. Their grave is located to the rear of the section so the chance of their grave already having a wreath on it was slim. I got to their stone, and in a loud voice recited Dad's name, service branch, rank, and era served. As I placed the wreath and stepped back to salute, the tears welled up. I bent down and kissed the back of the stone where Mom's name is and headed back down the hill. I procured another wreath to place on a random grave and placed it on the grave of one Francis J Murphy that was also a Navy veteran of Korea like my Dad.

Dad's older brother and my aunt are buried in the first section used when the cemetery was opened. Since their grave is only four rows back it normally gets a wreath quickly. Not this year. The wreath pickup was too far away, so I asked woman nearby if she wouldn't mind laying one of her wreaths on my uncle's grave. She was more than happy to, and I loudly read his details. He was a Marine in WWII and Korea. I also bent down and kissed the back of the stone where my aunt's name is inscribed.

There are 3 more family members buried there, but their graves are all over the cemetery so I just let others place the wreaths. When I am there for a P.G.R. mission, I visit them all and leave a shiny penny on the stone showing the graves were visited.

 

Happy Firearms Appreciation Day

Here in Kommiecticut we celebrate to poke a finger in the eye of the Sandy Hook hoplophobes. We're all sorry your loved ones are dead, but the peaceable gun owners of Kommiecticut and the nation are in no way the cause of the mayhem and death that occurs daily.

So go out and by a new firearm. Stock up on or load some ammo. Spend time at the range making some joyful noise. Go out and harvest game for your table or freezer. Stay strapped all day and open carry if its legal where you live. Let EVERYONE know you will not be beaten into submission to give up your God-given right to be armed for self defense because of the actions of the criminals or the insane.

Purposely not counting Nancy and Adam Lanza among the dead is disingeuous and simple anti -gun propaganda. Their deaths are just as much the fault and failings of the state of Kommiectict as the other 26.
